Release Notes v1.3.0

Fluent Bit is a Fast and Lightweight Data Forwarder for Linux, BSD and OSX. We are proud to announce the availability of Fluent Bit v1.3.0.

For people upgrading from previous versions you must read the Upgrading Notes section of our documentation:

Changes

Fluent Bit v1.3.0 is the next major release and include several improvements:

Stream Processor

Our built-in Stream Processor keeps improving, on this release we have integrated support for linear regression algorithms to provide timeseries functionalities, we expose two new functions that aim to expose Machine Learning capabilities:

  • TIMESERIES_FORECAST()
  • TIMESERIES_FORECAST_R()
New Plugins & Connectors

Fluent Bit community continues contributing improvements and extensions, the following is a summary of the new plugins that are part of v1.3 release:

Input

  • thermal: available on Linux, collect temperature samples from the registered thermal zones in the system.
  • collectd: new collectd UDP service mode that collect metrics from remote collectd services.

Output

  • datadog: new native connector that ship records to Datadog service.
Kubernetes Filter

A major improvement has landed to our Kubernetes Filter. The way to extract docker id and container id has been improved, annotation handling has been extended, now is possible to exclude records per stream or container name. For cases where the metadata cannot be obtained now the filter will add at least the metadata extracted from the local file name.

Prometheus Metrics

The exposed Prometheus metrics, now are sorted and have the proper TYPE labels for easy processing on the Prometheus server side.

Performance & Tools

Performance is usually a complex topic due to diverse scenarios of environments and data loads. When performing benchmarks is important to have proper tooling, so we have started a sub-project that provides simple tooling for testing:

Contributors

On every release, there are many people involved doing contributions on different areas like bug reporting, troubleshooting, documentation and coding, without these contributions from the community, the project won’t be the same and won’t be in the good shape that it is now. So THANK YOU! to everyone who takes part of this journey!

Since the list grows every time, it’s hard to mention every single person involved. In a best effort possible, we are mentioning people who have signed contributions in our GIT project history through commits. We would like to thanks to the following people who have been involved doing coding, bug fixes, documentation and general contributions on this release:
